Explain – Guilty

Guilty

“And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:” (John 16:8 ESV)

Strong’s Dictionary of Hebrew and Greek Words defines guilty as: acknowledge offense, liable.

We know what guilty means. It means you did what you are accused of.

When it comes to offending God, we are all guilty.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23 KJV)

Most of the time, we know when we are doing wrong. God gave us a conscience to tell us and to remind us.

“Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things.” (Hebrews 13:18 ESV)

To live with a guilty conscience can be debilitating and even make you physically ill.

It comes to haunt you in the middle of the night or in quiet moments during the day.

Jesus provides relief from all that. By confession and repentance, God will forgive you. He wants to forgive you, but you have to initiate the process.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:9  KJV)

Dear God,

I usually know when I am doing something wrong. Sometimes I ignore the voice that tells me and do it anyway.

Please help me to avoid that rebellion and to feel joy in overcoming the temptation to sin.

Please walk with me always to help me see it coming and to steer clear before it becomes a crisis.

Please help me learn more about Jesus and His sacrifice that removes my guilt from your sight forever.

Please help me understand the benefits of confessing my sins and how to turn them over to you so they no longer crush my soul.

Amen
